The Child Care Council regularly hosts professional development workshops throughout our tri-county service area to assist early childhood educators in meeting their NYS training requirements. Please note:
Non-credit bearing distance learning courses are reviewed using OCFS criteria to ensure they meet the New York State training requirements. Approved courses may qualify for EIP funding. If you are seeking training credit towards OCFS required training hours or EIP funding for a distance learning course, it is your responsibility to ensure that it is an approved course. Health & Safety Competency Training for Family/Group Family Child Care Providers
This training fulfills the mandatory 15 hour Health & Safety training requirement necessary to become a NYS regulated family or group family child care provider. Presented by a NYS certified Health & Safety trainer. Access the registration form here.

UNIQUE TRAINING OPPORTUNITY - a great way to acquire training in topic areas you need
CDA classes will be open to anyone wanting to take just one or more of the trainings. There is a $35 fee for each class, held every Wednesday night from 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm at the Farm & Home Center in Oriskany. 3.5 training credit will be earned for each class attended.

Literacy Rich Environments Project Overview
The Literacy Rich Environments Project will include information on how children learn literacy through the environment and the relationship between literacy and cultural diversity. This overview will include information on the ITA project that will include how to build a rich environment that includes literacy in every area of learning. The Literacy Rich Environment includes cultural diversity, non-stereotypical roles, family compositions and individuals with special needs. We will look at environmental print, writing, reading, choosing appropriate books/materials and setting up a classroom to encourage emergent literacy.

Management Trainings presented by the Early Care and Learning Council
All management training workshops are open to all child care center directors. They are funded by OCFS and are presented at no cost to the participants. The following workshops will be held at the Child Care Council's main office at 121 Second St., Oriskany. Individuals can register through the ECLC website www.earlycareandlearning.org starting March 1st.
Medication Administration Training
This course is a mandatory component of gaining NYS certification to administer medications to the children in your program.

Head Start Body Start is proud to offer two online courses to the Head Start and early childhood education communities.
1. Movement For Young Children
2. Including All Children (focuses on disability-specific information as it applies to physical activity) The courses are self-paced, and take approximately 2-3 hours each to complete.

Free Child Abuse and Neglect/Maltreatment Identification Training
The New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Bureau of Training now offers FREE online Mandated Reporter Training in child abuse and neglect/maltreatment identification. This 2-hour web-based training is fully narrated and interactive and features learning exercises customized for the Child Care profession. As you complete each 10-15 minute section, the application saves your progress and allows you up to 30 days to complete the entire course.
This course meets the NYSOCFS's mandatory requirements for Training in Child Abuse Identification and Reporting. A certificate of completion is sent online to person's completing the course. It is a credit for 2 hours of training on this topic.

Free Shaken Baby / Child Abuse and Neglect/Maltreatment Identification Training
The New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Bureau of Training now offers a Shaken Baby online training. This one-hour training can count toward the 30 hrs of required training for any provider or day care employee who chooses to take it. A certificate will print out for those who finish the course. It is a one hour training. The online training covers both Shaken baby syndrome (#9) and the child abuse and maltreatment identification and prevention(#6).

Reducing the Risk of SIDS in Child Care
The American Academy of Pediatrics Health Child Care America is pleased to announce the release of a new online module on Reducing the Risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) in Child Care. Based on the AAP Reducing the Risk of SIDS in Child Care Speakers' Kit, this free course is designed to educate everyone who cares for babies, including child care providers. In one hour, participants will learn how to create a safe sleep environment to reduce the risk of SIDS and other sleep related deaths. With an easy to use format, this course is available 24/7 from your home or office computer. Child care providers will receive a certificate of completion for 1.0 contact hour. Preparatory Training Programs:
The Child Care Council offers preparatory coursework and advisement for the Child Development Associate Credential and the NYS School-Age Care Credential. These courses are offered on an as-needed basis. For more information on either of these programs, contact the Child Care Council at (315) 223-7850.
Child Development Associate Credential
The Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) is a nationally recognized credential for early childhood educators. Credentials can be obtained by family/group family providers, infant/toddler child care center staff and pre-school center staff. The Child Care Council offers a two-semester preparatory course that prepares candidates for the CDA verification visit.
School-Age Care Credential
The School-Age Care Credential (SACC) is a New York State credential for those early childhood educators working with school-age children. The Child Care Council offers a two-semester preparatory course that prepares candidates for the final SACC assessment visit.

Professional Development Policies & Information
Training requirements: Child care professionals are required by the NYS Office of Children & Family Services to complete 30 hours of professional development every two-year renewal period. Training must be completed in each of these topic areas:
1--Principles of Childhood Development
2--Nutrition & the Health Needs of Children
3--Child Day Care Program Development
4--Safety & Security Procedures
5--Business Record Maintenance & Management
6--Child Abuse & Maltreatment Identification & Prevention
7--Statutes & Regulations Pertaining to Child Care
8--Statutes & Regulations Pertaining to Child Abuse & Maltreatment
9--Shaken Baby Syndrome Education & Awareness
Pre-registration is required for all Child Care Council sponsored professional development workshops, regardless of whether or not a fee is involved. Please register for your chosen professional development workshop by the registration deadline.
Refunds/credits will not be given to no-shows. If you are unable to attend a professional development workshop you have registered for, you must contact the Child Care Council prior to the workshop. If need be, you must request a refund 72 hours prior to your scheduled workshop.
